With their topknots bobbing, and feet scurrying, the California Quail screeches whit-whit-whit as you continue your hike through the Pacific coastal mountains. Further down the trail, you notice a blanket of gold. It’s said Spanish sailers seeing the land glow so brilliantly, named it the “Land of Fire.” Now we call them California poppies.
